38 Weeks...

...And we're almost there. We had our doctor's appointment this morning where we were told that I'm dialated to a 2 and 80% effaced. Maddie should arrive any day now; however, we're set to induce at 6:00AM next Thursday (the 19th) if she hasn't arrived on her own by then.

In other words, within a week I'm going to be a mom! How crazy is that?

Stan the Man...

...is blind.

Its the weirdest thing. We noticed Sunday night that he was acting kind of strange. I held out a piece of food from my dinner to him and he just sat there looking around with my fingers no more than 2 inches from his face. I touched him with the food and he started, then took the food from me. I though it was weird, so we kept an eye on him (he had been fine, running around earlier in the day).

On Monday, we noticed that he would run into things. If we (or the other dogs) were walking in front of him and stopped, he would run into the back of us.

Tuesday we took him to the vet who said that his pupils were responding to light, but that he had lost sight in his left eye, but seemed to have periferal vision at best in his right eye. Blood test were run and Dr. Hamby (our vet) said that his kidney levels were elevated (which could have been from nothing more than dehydration), his lymphnodes were swollen (which may only be from allergies), and he seemed kind of lethargic. We were referred to an opthamologist because Dr. Hamby didn't think it was systemic after the tests.

Wednesday, Stan went to the eye doctor. She ran another set of blood tests which showed that his kidney levels are normal (and it was only dehydration). However, she discovered that his left retina has completely detached and his right has mostly detached. No idea what has caused it. Usually it's some kind of trauma, (big trauma like being hit by a car), but in Stan's case, nothing like that has happened.

Our next step is chest X-rays on Saturday and if they don't show cancer or any underlying problems, then we have to go in for more tests at the opthamologist (looking for infectious diseases). I pray it's nothing like that. We can figure out how to help him and have ordered a book on blind dogs, but I can't handle losing him.

It was all so random and sudden. Brian has really taken to Stanley and helps him out. Its heartbreaking to watch him trying to adapt though. He used to be so hyper and playful and now he's easily scared and timid. He still plays with the other dogs, but gets startled easily and runs into things. I want to cry when I think about him not being able to chase tennis balls (his favorite thing), or not being able to take him to the water or to the dog park, etc. Bless his heart. I love that boy.

36 Weeks...

...We're getting there! At the very most we'll have to wait 6 weeks to meet Maddie (I believe they induce at 42 weeks), but I don't think it will be that long. After the doctor's appt this morning we were told that I'm about 1 cm dialated and Dr. Cowan said he thought he felt her head. He said she's dropped and appears to be head down. We go tomorrow morning for the 36 week sonogram where we'll be able to see exactly what position she's in and we'll also get an estimate on weight.

I did give a high blood pressure reading when I first arrived, but then gave one that was great. Dr. Cowan asked us to buy a blood pressure cuff and to take and record my blood pressure 3 times a day. They just want to keep an eye on it. High blood pressure can make me sick but won't hurt Maddie. Worst case senario, they will induce labor which will cure my high blood pressure. We're nowhere near needing to do that yet.

On a funnier note, my feet (or cankles as I like to call them) are swelling to sausage proportions and my belly button is pretty much non-existent.

35 Weeks...

...and from the front I look almost normal (even though I've gained an incredible, ROUND 30 lbs). THEN comes the side view. It looks like I'm smuggling a basketball under my shirt.

I went to see Dr. Cowan this morning (from here on out I'll be going every week). I've been told not to show apartments while at work and not to do too much of anything. If I need to go to HEB that's ok, but I shouldn't be going to HEB and Target, and the mall. Apparently I need to take it easy and avoid strain which can cause me to go into early labor. Fine by me, I'm too exhausted lately to do much anyway. Plus, mother nature thought it would be funny to not only make the last month or two of pregnancy extremely physically uncomfortable, but also to kick in a little insomnia to boot. For the last month, at least, I've been getting up every 1-2 hours to make a bathroom trip...the new deal, is once I'm up I have a hard time going back to sleep. Supossedly this is to get me ready for being up with the baby all through the night.

So if you happen to be the next person to tell me to "get sleep while I still can" please accept my apologies now-I cannot be held responsible for my response, be it verbal or physical :o)

34 Weeks...

...I'm so ready to not be pregnant anymore. I only have 6 weeks left, but I don't think it'll take that long. We're just hoping she waits until after the move. I'd like to have a place to put her after she's born :o). What do I know though...she'll probably be 2 weeks late.

I can tell you though, carrying this mellon around is getting to be ridiculous. Don't believe me? Take a look...

My next question is "how in the hell is this thing supossed to get bigger?" Maddie is still growing, which enevitably means that I'm also going to keep growing but I just can't imagine it. It seems like, at some point, it will just pop and that will be the end of it.

32 Weeks...

...While taking a bath I noticed that when I sit up, my belly button puckers, like it's trying to whistle! I laughed and laughed, then I had to call Brian to come see. It's pretty funny.

Other than that, we're just trying to get ready for Maddie's arrival, the baby shower, and the move (and mostly importantly, Brian's birthday) :o) which will all be happening on the same weekend (except for Maddie's arrival-hopefully) :o)

The Beef Bones Incident...

...the video says it all...
